HULL.
United's unbeaten run for 17 games has ended, Hull won 2-1 tonight.
But who really cares, when Zlatan and Mourinho advanced to their first final in their new club after winning 3-2 on aggregate.
Now awaits Southampton on Wembley in February.
HULL PENALTY CREATED TENSION
With 2-0 ahead from the first game Manchester United played the first half with very low pace and sat back quite alot. They failed to create any great counter attacks and the balls to Zlatan were not accurate enough. In the 38th minute United was punished for their passivity, but it was on a wrongly decided penalty. Rojo barely fouled Maguire and Huddlestone scored from the spot. 1-0 to Hull at halftime (1-2 on aggregate).
IMPORTANT GOAL BY POGBA
Man Utd woke up and played better in the second half. They didn't create alot of chances but controlled the possession better and didn't let Hull put any real pressure for their second goal. In the 66th minute Zlatan set up Rashford with a smart little pass in the box, a Hull-defender cleared it back to Pogba who toed the ball passed Marshall. 1-1, 1-3 on aggregate.
LATE GOAL BY HULL
Clearly the result in the first game played a big part in this game, United never accelerated beyond second gear. The game was quite even and then basically from nowhere Hull scored in the 83rd minute. A nice cross reached Niasse in the box and with a tap in it was 2-1. The result itself is insignificiant, United won 3-2 on aggregate and are through to the League Cup final against Southampton on Wembley in February but sadly the unbeaten run for 17 games ended.
Started the game but had a weak performance in the first half as well as all other Man Utd-players.
Did not get involved in the build-up properly but also didn't move enough to get the ball in good positions. Had one chance on a counterattack though where he advanced with the ball to the edge of the penalty box and shot a wellplaced shot down to the left but the goalkeeper Marshall made a great save.
He played better in second half and dominated Hull's centre-backs more. In the 66th minute he served Rashford with a nice little pass in the box with the outside of his right foot, the ball eventually came to Pogba who scored.
He skinned two players beautifully in the box in the 72nd minute but his shot was blocked to a corner.
Not a great performance by Zlatan but United are through to the final, which was the most important part tonight.
