Zlatan exploded this season. 28 league-goals, top scorer in Serie A, 35 goals total and a fantastic home-game against Arsenal in CL. Weirdly, Milan lost Serie A to Juventus, an experience almost completely new to Z.
After the time in Barca and then coming "home" the year before, it was like a new era of Ibra had started. He was now turning 30, he had alot of experience from different clubs, and he had once again showed his greatness carrying Milan to the Scudetto a couple of months before.
POWERFUL BEYOND BELIEF
An interesting detail with Zlatan's seasons is that he had slightly a new "look" in each and every one of them. Shorter/longer hair, facial hair etc. He has never said if it's intentional to create a new feeling around every one but anyway, when it was time for pre-season 2011 the hair was now different and after building muscles in the summer, he looked like a f*cking beast when scoring against Bayern Münich in a pre-season game, this was gonna be an interesting season.
GOALS, GOALS, GOALS
After murdering Serie A with 25 goals 2008/09, having to become a kind of complement to Messi in Barca and then carrying Milan last season with alot of assists, it was time for the best season yet, at least in goals. From the very beginning, goal in the first game, Super Cup win against Inter (TROPHY 18) he was scoring and never really stopped, scoring 2 or more goals in 7 games, making it a total of 35 goals in all competitions.
BUT NO SCUDETTO
With 28 Zlatan-goals in the league and a strengthen Milan, surely no one could challenge Zlatan's potential 7th Scudetto? Sadly yes, Juventus had started its impressive era in Italy and "stole" the Scudetto from Milan, going unbeaten and finishing four points ahed of Milan. He did however take home everything at the Italian Gala of Football, being "Best player", "Best Foreign player", in "Team of the year" as well as Top Goal scorer.
BOOK-TIME JUST BEFORE FACING THE PHILISOPHER AGAIN
When Milan drew Barcelona in Champions League alot of people raised their eyebrows, but after reading Zlatan's book and getting unique insight to his time in Barcelona only weeks before, the game between Milan and Barcelona on 23 November 2011 became extremely interesting, everybody was interested in Zlatan's take on playing his old teammates and primarily facing his old coach. The result was kind of mixed, Zlatan scored and Milan stood up in an admirable way with Boateng scoring a crazy goal but Barcelona won 3-2 and Zlatan time after time had to answer the question whether or not he said hello to the philosopher.
FINALLY BEAT THE BRITS
After he had been knocked out 5 (!) times by English teams in the round of 16 or quarterfinals of Champions League, and with the highlighted irony of Inter winning CL 2010, the pressure was intense in round of 16 when Milan played Arsenal on San Siro. Zlatan, who had been amazing all seasons, had not scored in two league-games before the game with Milan only getting one point so there was alot of tension. But he delivered heavily with 1 goal and 2 assists in a fantastic 4-0-win, all of Europe (incl. England) recognized his brillance. A total 4-3 win and advancing to the quarterfinal is all being remembered, what happened at Emirates is now confiscated.
FACING BARCA AGAIN
And who stood there if not Barca. The hype and controvery from the book was now at ease, Zlatan and Milan got to prepare normally and they got close to beating them, 0-0 at home and with Zlatan making a nice assist away, making it 1-1, they were through but two penalties (one clearly wrongly given) for Barca and they won 3-1.
When playing against Inter in an emotional game in May, nobody thought Zlatan would leave Milan but later that summer things took an unexpected turn...

"We score four goals at home and I don't know if it can get any better, or well, to be honest I think so, we had alot of opportunities to score and if we had been less selfish in front of goal we probably would have scored more goals but we win 4-0 against Arsenal, it was a tough game. I don't think there were alot of people who had expected this before the game, it's Champions League round of 16, but our entire team played compact defense and we played a fantastic game. It was an open game in the beginning but we played tactically well and then used our chanses greatly."

UEFA are continously removing Champions League-videos from the internet. The Dailymotion UEFA Champions League-playlist is meant to complete the Youtube UEFA Champions League-playlist. So all Zlatan's goals/assists should be in either one of them. If you notice a video being removed from youtube or unavailable, it would be much appreciated if you report it to contact@zlatanibrahimovic.com. Thank you in advance. |
