MADRID.
Despite an amazing first half Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-0 to Real Madrid.
Nacho scored the only goal in the first half, when PSG just couldn't get the ball in. Zlatan played 90 minutes and was close, but tonight it wasn't enough.
– How we performed doesn't matter when we lose the match, Zlatan said after the game.
So It was time for the second game between the two titans in Group A.
Zlatan started with Di Maria and Cavani up front, PSG lined a healthy, complete team.
PSG CREATED ALOT OF CHANCES IN THE FIRST HALF
PSG was defintely the better team in the first half and created alot of chances. Zlatan had a curling shot inches wide as well as a hard freekick basically on the exact same spot. Matuidi got an open chance and if Aurier would have crossed better in one great PSG-attack they probably would have scored.
REAL MADRID SCORED FIRST
Instead Real Madrid took the lead in the 35th minute. A Kroos-shot was deflected and flew high up in the air. Trapp ran out to collect the ball but subbed Nacho got there first and volleyed by chance. He got lucky and his shot/cross-attempt rolled into Trapp's empty goal. 1-0 to Real Madrid.
RABIOT HIT THE WOODWORK
PSG got Verratti injured already after 15 minutes. Rabiot came in and played well. Just after Real's goal he delivered a beautful individual performance. He took down a ball on his chest and shot a super-volley with his left, straight at Navas right post. Only a minute after Maxwell crossed perfectly and both Zlatan and Cavani threw themselves but both missed the ball with an inch. 1-0 to Real Madrid at half time.
MORE EVEN SECOND HALF
Real Madrid stepped up in the second half and it looked more like in Paris a two weeks ago (0-0). Both teams played well defensively and both teams had problems creating chances even though PSG kept the ball well within the team and Di Maria looked dangerous at times.
DI MARIA ALSO HIT THE WOODWORK
In the 89th minute PSG got a freekick very close to Real's penalty area. Unusually Zlatan let it go, and Di Maria stepped up. A beautiful, curled left freekick straight at Navas crossbar, what a goal it could have been. But sadly for PSG that became the last opportunity, Real Madrid won 1-0 and took the lead in Group A.
Zlatan looked very dangerous in the first half. When he got the ball he played safe and then got into a better new position closer to Real's goal. In the 19th minute he was very close. He got the ball to the left in the penalty area and curled it just inches wide.
Ten minutes later he struck a great, hard freekick from almost 30 meters, but the ball went wide. At the end of the first half both he and Cavani were centimeters from scoring on Maxwell but they both missed. A great first half from Zlatan despite no goals.
In the second half he was a little bit more invisible, Real Madrid played better and PSG didn't have as many scoring opportunities.
